On February 16th 2024, the International Class Academic Office (ICAO) hosted an online Share Fair webinar titled “Sharing Session: Teaching Strategies for International Class.” This event was organised exclusively for lecturers of the International Class at Telkom University to come together, exchange ideas, and explore effective teaching methodologies. The event featured two remarkable lecturers from Telkom University, Dr. Ade Romadhony, S.T., M.T. and Dr. Hosam Alden Riyadh, M.S.A who both achieved high scores from the University’s evaluation of lecturers (EDOM).

To commemorate the event, the Director of Postgraduates expressed gratitude to the lecturers for embarking on a journey of collaborative learning aimed at enriching everyone involved.

Followed by the opening, Dr. Mohammad Deni Akbar, the Manager of Post-Graduate and International Classes, presented an overview of the international class’s odd semester for 2023/2024. This encompassed detailed insights into active student data, average GPA, EDOM of international class and EPrt of International class.

Transitioning to the even semester of 2023/2024, Dr. Mohammad Deni Akbar provided updates on the meticulous preparations underway for the newly renovated facilities, including upgraded toilets and prayer room.

The first speaker Dr. Hosam Alden Riyadh, M.S.A, a lecturer from the Faculty of Economics and Business, opened his speech by invoking a compelling quote: “Do the best you can until you know better, then when you know better, DO BETTER.” He conveyed the significance of experiential learning, advocating that lecturers can elevate their teaching methodologies by fully embracing every learning opportunity.

In his presentation, Dr. Hosam Alden Riyadh, M.S.A, referred to four teaching methods, including Teacher-centred methods, Learner-centred methods, content-focused methods, and interactive/participative methods. He outlined various strategies to actively engage students in the learning process, such as discussions, group work, and role-playing. Additionally, he acknowledged the challenges inherent in the teaching profession.

Despite the challenges, Dr. Hosam Alden Riyadh, M.S.A suggested that there is always room for improvement in the teaching environment. He emphasised the importance of identifying the audience, clarifying the objectives of each class, and continually striving for enhancement.

The second half of the webinar introduced Dr. Ade Romadhony, S.T., M.T., a lecturer from the Faculty of Informatics. She shared her remarkable journey teaching in international classes, highlighting the adjustments she had to make to align with international standards. Dr. Ade Romadhony, S.T., M.T. elaborated that there are several attributes she acquired over her years of teaching international students, including particular approaches lecturers can employ to motivate those facing challenges. She stated that international students often demonstrate great abilities, reflect high grades, and have high motivation to achieve significant milestones.

Dr. Ade Romadhony, S.T., M.T., encouraged lecturers to get to know the strengths and abilities of students, considering the diverse nature of the classroom. She advocated for providing assistance and support to individual needs by allocating additional time to students requiring extra help.

The two-hour event hosted by the International Class Academic Office (ICAO) successfully served as a platform for educators to exchange insights and strategies for fostering an enriching learning environment. From this event, lecturers can strive to create classrooms where every individual has the opportunity to thrive and excel.
