What is the K-Global Korean Scholarship?

The K-Global Korean Scholarship is designed to provide foreign students in the field of science and engineering with the opportunity to study at higher educational institutions in Gyeongsangbuk-do. Its objective is to cultivate local talent and establish an environment in which outstanding foreign talent can work and reside in the province.

Scholarship period 

Master’s Degree – (3 years) one year of korean language + two years of degree program 

Doctoral Degree – (4 years)  One year of korean language program + three years of degree program

Required Language Proficiency Test Result

Minimum language proficiency test certificate: TOPIK level 3, TOEIC 750, TOEFL PBT 550, TOEFL ibt 79, TEPS 327, IELTS 6.0 or higher.

Eligibility requirements are limited to the results of the language test taken within the last two years as of the application deadline for K-GKS admission.

If candidates are from the country where English is spoken as first language (USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa), the English proficiency test will not be required to hand in.

Program Details and Available Universities

The K-Global Korean Scholarship presents a unique opportunity for international students, offering a program quota of 40 slots, with 10 allocations for each participating university. The focus is on fostering excellence in the fields of science, engineering, and regionally specialized industrial studies as established by our esteemed partner universities.

Exciting Opportunity at Kumoh National Institute of Technology

As a special highlight, K-GKS recipients enrolling at Kumoh National Institute of Technology will kickstart their degree program on September 1st, 2024. What’s even better? Recipients are exempted from the one-year Korean language program, enabling them to dive straight into their academic pursuits. Eligibility 

To ensure fairness and transparency in our selection process, we have established clear eligibility criteria:

  • Nationality

Applicants’ parents (or legal guardians) must hold citizenship from another country other than Korea.

  • Level of education

Applicants must have obtained the required degree (minimum level of education indicated above) by February 28, 2024.

  • Grades

 Score percentile should be 80% or above on a 100-point scale or be ranked in the top 20% of one’s class.

CGPA* must be equal to or above 2.64/4.0, 2.80/43.2.91/4.5or3.23/5.0

 For universities ranked within the top 300 in the ‘2024 QS World University rankings’, grade conditions are exempted.

  • Age

Must be under 40 years of age (born after September 1, 1984)

  • Health

All applicants must be in good health, both mentally and physically, to study in Korea for the full duration of the program.

Obligation for K-GKS recipients

K-GKS recipients are obligated to either find a job at local companies or pursue higher degree at universities located in Gyeongsangbuk-do and to maintain residency in Gyeongsangbuk-do for three years after one’s graduation.

K-GKS final nominees must attend “Gyeongbuk Global School” program before the start of the semester. Gyeongbuk Global School will last two weeks in August 2024, and is a program that introduces policy of Gyeongsangbuk-do and provides scholars with opportunities to experience Korean culture, laws and etc., to help them study and settle in Gyeongsangbuk-do.
